Editorial policy

Nine rules. They apply to everything published on WikiLocation from September 2026; the archive is covered by rule 5.

1. Sources are official, named and dated

A fact on a beach page comes from a page published by the body that governs the beach: a park service, a county, a city, a national tourism agency, a national naturist federation, or the statute. The source is named on the entry with the date it was read. Commercial guides, review sites, forums, and encyclopaedias edited by the public are not sources for legal status.

2. Legal status is graded, never assumed

Designated: the authority marks the area on its own page, and the entry quotes it. Described, not bounded: an official page describes naturist use without a boundary or a decision. Not designated: no authority does; the entry quotes the law that applies. A beach with no official page is not listed. A status is never inferred from custom, from a commercial listing, or from another site.

3. Missing is stated as missing

Where a source does not give access, facilities, season or rules, the ledger says "not stated by the source". Blank fields are not filled from memory or from other sites.

4. No people, no personas

The byline is "WikiLocation editorial" and links here. There are no invented authors, testimonials, ratings or reviews. There are no photographs of people on the beach pages, and no photographs generated by software of real places anywhere.

5. The archive is kept, dated and unedited

Guides published between 2023 and 2025 are kept at their original addresses as written, with their original dates, and are labelled as archive material on every page. They are not re-verified and may contradict an official source; where they do, rule 1 wins and the archive page is not silently changed. A correction is added above the text, dated. Twelve short archive items were not carried over and redirect to the section they belonged to.

6. The beach pages are travel information, inside fixed lines

Location, law, access, facilities, seasons, etiquette and safety. Nothing explicit; no imagery of people; no links to and no advertising from adult businesses, whatever the price. Titles and descriptions are informational.

7. Paid content is labelled, and refused where it would mislead

Sponsored articles carry a disclosure at the top and the bottom, and their outbound links carry rel="sponsored". Paid links are never placed on a legal-status line, in a source ledger, or on the legality, etiquette or first-visit guides. Adult, gambling, pharmaceutical and financial-trading placements are refused. The rate card is on the partner page.

8. Dates are real dates

"Last verified" means the day a named editor opened the source and read it. The whole beach module is re-read at least twice a year and after any reader report; the date on each entry changes only when that entry has actually been re-read.

9. Corrections

Send the page address, the sentence, and the official page that contradicts it to the address in the site's domain registration or through the contact route on the partner page. A confirmed error on a beach page is fixed within seven days and the entry's date is updated; a rejected report is answered with the reason. Archive pages get a dated note rather than a rewrite.
